My aim for the day was to get to somewhere that was less than a day's riding distance to Bilbao, ready for my ferry back to England. I decided to avoid Madrid - we were in the middle of a pandemic.

I walked back to my bike around 2pm on a scorching hot afternoon. Traveling with just a rucksack meant that I had to walk from my camp spot on the mountain (obviously I had to camp with a view) back to my bike in 42°C heat.

I was up early today, as is usually the case when sleeping outside. I had gone for a swim and bathe yesterday so there was no need to shower that morning, just pack up and set off.

London to Folkestone and Brittany via train and road. Before I'd even got on the bike, roughly three sneezes in out of five, I was questioning whether skipping the antihistamines was the right decision. It's OK, I reassured myself. The pollen is less potent on the
